French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review
Melding form with functionality, French-door refrigerators have stylish double doors that open up to an enormous fridge on the top and a freezer drawer below. Special features like door-to-door dispensers, ice machines with higher-end features and adjustable flex drawers make them stand out from the crowd.
We asked experts like Ladina Schopf, an interior designer, architect, and founder of LS Projects, for tips on choosing the right model. They considered storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency, among other factors.
GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The name of the series suggests that the GE Profile series is targeted at people who want to incorporate cutting-edge technology into their kitchen. This fridge is loaded with them all including a Keurig K cup coffee maker on the door to a sophisticated dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This fridge is expensive, so I expected better.
Aside from that blip, this fridge is a great choice. It features a large freezer compartment that is not common for counter-depth French-door fridges. It also has a large capacity for frozen food, which is a big difference from other models.
Inside the fridge, you'll find 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment has 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is roughly on par for an French door fridge costing this much. It has a decent sized refrigerator with an ice maker in the left door. But it's not the biggest one I've seen.
You can adjust the shelving in each compartment to create a customized storage layout for the items you need to keep. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is attractive. Its LED lighting is a nice feature, and the in-door storage bins have an additional shelf that folds down to make it possible to store items that are tall. The drawers have temperature controls so you can set them for Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. The drawers are simple to open and shut however I found the plastic's textured coatings to be a bit rough on my fingers.
The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator within this price range. This includes Wi-Fi, app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app is available for iOS and Android devices and lets you control your refrigerator from anywhere in the globe. It also offers numerous options for customizing. It also sends you notifications when the door is left unlocked, when the freezer or fridge must be defrosted and when the filter requires a change.
It would be great it GE PYE22PYNFS offered Precise fill the option that is available in a handful of GE refrigerators that allows users to set how many cups they want to dispense. The fridge displays a countdown to show you how much water remains, but it's not as effective as Precise fill.
Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The Bosch French-door Refrigerator is a stunning piece of equipment. It's designed to look like it's a seamless part in your kitchen. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also boasts a veggie compartment that helps keep vegetables and fruits fresher longer, and two compressors to ensure the best food preservation. The Ice maker is among the top we've tested and produces a pyramid-shaped Ice with low water usage. This refrigerator is a great option for a single family or kitchenettes that want a sleek design and top-of-the-line food preservation.
This fridge was rated as the top in our Refrigerators Test due to a variety of reasons. Its freezer temperatures held firm at just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit and never changing more than a fraction of an inch. This is essential to avoiding freezing burn. The fridge section of the fridge also did well. It reached the initial temperature set within a matter of hours, and remained at the temperature throughout our testing.
Bosch is known for its high-end appliances, so it's no surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance with the option to connect to your home Wi-Fi network and Bosch's Home Connect platform. This app lets you monitor and control your fridge remotely from your tablet or smartphone. The refrigerator is expensive, however it has top-quality features and functions for the cost.
It's important to understand the limitations of the fridge. It has a narrow shelf space, which means you may need to be creative when it comes to storing large items. The shelves are not impervious to spills and could easily be damaged or stained by sharp objects. It's easy to remove the refrigerator trays However, be sure to clean them regularly to prevent the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth refrigerator is a great choice for those who require lots of space within the space of a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the refrigerator has a standard French-door layout with gallon-sized door bins on each door and two rows of shelves for spill-capture and a set crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right side can be folded to provide more space for tall items. You'll also find a full width deli drawer and an internal water dispenser.
One of the great aspects of this refrigerator is that its ice maker is inside the freezer, making it easy to transfer frozen ice to the fridge to use as required. The freezer also features innovative design features like sliding drawers that can help you sort your things. It also has a large bin that can accommodate plenty of frozen food items as well as an additional container for storing ice.
Smart InstaView panel is a cool feature of the refrigerator. You can control the temperature, lighting, and other aspects of your refrigerator from your smartphone. It's a nice way to control and monitor your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.
The Smart InstaView feature is neat but it doesn't improve the performance of the fridge. In fact, it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this refrigerator than other refrigerators we tested. This could be due to the larger capacity.
The doors are a different issue with this fridge. french door refrigerator freezer let shorter people open them from the bottom. However taller people will struggle to close them without slamming. It would have been much better if they had front-mounted handle.
The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is a great choice for those who want to combine the look and feel of a French-door refrigerator with an efficient design. Its capacity is superior for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a great layout. It's also a little cheaper than the best counter-depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which can make it a desirable choice.
Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
If you're looking for an French door fridge that doesn't cost a fortune this Frigidaire is a solid option. It's a basic design that isn't as striking visually as some of the competition however it comes with enough features to make it a good choice. Its main characteristic is the adjustable temperature drawer which helps keep food items like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge ice maker and a water dispenser.
The "Chill Drawer", which sits above the two crisper bins, is a great feature. This drawer allows you to redirect some of the refrigerator's cooling power to this area so that you can store foods that require extra attention. You can alter this feature by using the slider located on the outside of the drawer. You can also use this feature to set a general cooling level for the whole fridge, however, I've found that changing the general settings tends to be more effective than specific ones.
During my tests, the temperature of the refrigerator were fairly consistent across all areas of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the refrigerator didn't vary much from 38 degrees. This is a good performance, but isn't quite at the top of our ratings.
This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also pair this fridge with a smart thermometer for more precise readings of your fridge's internal temperature.
The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is made of grey-bodied stainless steel that has a "smudge-proof" finish. It does a great job of removing streaks and fingerprints even when compared with glossier stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tried.
